Springfield-area meat and poultry processing businesses are among organizations statewide to receive roughly $17 million in grant funding.
The Missouri Department of Agriculture funneled the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act funds to more than 40 businesses, according to a news release. Nearly $1.3 million went to 13 organizations in Springfield Business Journal's coverage area of 50 miles from the Queen City.
Fair Play Fine Meats LLC; Neal Meats LLC in Seymour; Ozark Meat Co.; Schuchmann Meat Locker LLC in Conway; and The Boucherie in Fair Grove each received $200,000, the highest amount awarded to the statewide meat and poultry processors.
The other Springfield-area grant recipients are:
• Cactus Ridge Custom Processing LLC in Walnut Grove, $100,000;
• Gold Crown Food Company of the Ozarks Inc. in Springfield, $100,000;
• Shiners LLC in Aurora, $100,000;
• Cactus Ridge Custom Processing LLC in Marshfield, $97,881;
• Gibson's Packing Inc. in Seymour, $20,000;
• Oldfield Packing LLC in Sparta, $20,000;
• Turner Processing LLC in Fair Grove, $20,000; and
• Justin Perkins in Elkland, $15,732.
Grant recipient Schuchmann Meat Locker's parent company, Schuchmann Meat Co., recently was featured in an April 26 Springfield Business Journal article titled, "Meat companies make contrasting moves."
Husband-and-wife owners Chad and Julie Schuchmann opened a 1,500-square-foot shop Feb. 26 at 4406 S. Campbell Ave., Ste. 100. It’s the first of three stores the couple plan to launch in the Queen City by the end of May, according to past reporting. The couple purchased Spring Valley Meat Processing in Conway and renamed it as Schuchmann Meat Locker.
Utah-based gourmet cookie chain Crumbl Cookies opened its first Springfield shop; interior design business Branson Upstaging LLC relocated; and Lauren Ashley Dance Center LLC added a second location.
