Marshfield gains a coffee shop

Posted online

A Western-themed boutique launched in the fall in Marshfield has rebranded with a new name, address and focus.

Prickly Cactus Coffee and Boutique LLC, owned by Jessica Rezak and her husband Jeff, opened Saturday at 1100 Spur Drive, Ste. 20, in Centerview Plaza. Jessica Rezak said she previously started Cowboy Boutique LLC in October inside event center Hwy 38 Arena, at 13800 State Highway 38. However, she desired a more visible site and wanted to include coffee as a new element of the business.

“We are avid coffee drinkers and Marshfield had a need. This was the best way to combine them both,” she said. “I wanted a good location.”

Most of the 1,400-square-foot space is devoted to the 24-seat coffee shop, although Rezak said she’s still selling boutique products on-site. Items include art, home decor, handmade jewelry and coffee-scented soaps. In the cowboy theme, new and used horse equipment, including saddles and headstalls, also is for sale.

“Everything I have in there right now is carried over from the Cowboy Boutique,” she said.

Rezak estimated a $20,000 investment in the venture on Spur Drive, noting most of that was for coffee-related equipment, including an espresso machine, grinders and brewers. The coffee is from Grand Junction, Colorado-based Colorado Legacy Coffee Co.

The drink menu also features mochas, lattes, frappes and spiced chai, she said. Bagels, muffins and pastries also are available, Rezak said.

The couple signed a one-year lease with Robert Headley for an undisclosed rate. Rezak said they were able to get the space ready in about three weeks, noting this weekend’s first day of business drew a crowd.

“At times, we were backed out to the door,” she said, adding the shop also offers free Wi-Fi and is available for after-hour rentals. “All the seats were full.”
