MacCheesy’s plans early 2023 opening in south Springfield

MacCheesy’s, a grilled cheese sandwich and macaroni and cheese concept, is planning an early 2023 launch in south Springfield.

The location for the corporate-owned restaurant is 1920 E. Independence St., said Sophia Hamid, who owns the Joplin-based concept with husband Sherif Magd. The exact opening date in Springfield was not provided.

"We’ve been very blessed by the support of our restaurant over the years in Joplin and the surrounding area and actually have a large customer base and following from Springfield, a lot of whom make the trip to Joplin regularly," Hamid said via email. "The love and excitement we’ve received with the announcement of it coming soon has been so overwhelming and incredible."

MacCheesy’s in summer 2022 teased a Springfield restaurant but did not provide a timeline or location.

The location in Springfield is in James River Towne Center, near a Walmart Supercenter and The Home Depot.

The MacCheesy’s menu includes chicken alfredo and pizza macaroni and cheese dishes and chicken bacon ranch and cheeseburger grilled cheese sandwiches, as well as soups and salads, according to its website.
