An O'Reilly Automotive Inc. (Nasdaq: ORLY) board member for nearly three decades has retired from his role with the Springfield-based auto parts retailer.
Jay Burchfield tendered his notice of resignation this month in accordance with the board's mandatory retirement age policy, according to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing from the company last week. O'Reilly Automotive's website lists Burchfield’s age as 77, and past reporting indicates the board’s mandatory retirement age is 78.
In the company's 2023 earnings report released in February, O'Reilly Automotive board Chair Greg Henslee said he would "like to take this opportunity to thank Jay Burchfield for his guidance as the company’s lead director and congratulate him on his upcoming board retirement." The report additionally indicated O'Reilly Automotive nominated former CEO Greg Johnson to succeed Burchfield on the board.
The SEC filing indicates Johnson was elected to the board during O'Reilly Automotive's May 16 annual meeting of shareholders.
Burchfield served as an O'Reilly Automotive board member since 1997 and as independent lead director since 2018, according to his biography on the company's website. His career has included leadership roles with Trust Company of the Ozarks and SilverTree Cos.
