Southwest Missouri Safety Co. purchased fellow Springfield-area safety training company Brittney Inc.

Russell Hinds, president of Nixa-based Southwest Missouri Safety Co., said the acquisition closed Aug. 13 for undisclosed terms. Declining to disclose figures, Hinds said the purchase would more than double its revenue in the “seven figures plus.” Brittney Inc. reported $515,000 in 2016 revenue, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.

“The company is going through a growth strategy where we want to try to cover several states throughout the Midwest,” he said. “This is the first step as part of that expansion.”

With the purchase, the combined company is slated to rebrand on Jan. 1, 2019, as Mid-America Safety and Environmental, Hinds said. Noting there would be “new logos … the whole nine yards,” he said the switch would position the company regionally as it looks for work in new markets, such as the Kansas City area. Southwest Missouri Safety Co. and Brittney Inc. will keep their separate names until the transition.

“It allowed us to strengthen our core customer foundation,” he said, noting the combined firm would have seven employees.

Both companies offer Occupational Safety and Health Administration and other types of training for businesses.

Lee and Carol Johnson, who sold Brittney Inc. to Southwest Missouri Safety Co., are no longer involved with the business, Hinds said, noting they plan to retire.

Southwest Missouri Safety Co. was formed in 2006, while Brittney Inc. traces its roots back to 1989, according to SBJ archives.
