An employee with Republic Services Inc.'s (NYSE: RSG) Springfield division has been honored with a Driver of the Year accolade by the National Waste & Recycling Association.
Frank Epps, of Springfield, was named National Commercial Driver of the Year, according to a news release. He received a $1,000 cash prize and was honored yesterday at the WasteExpo event in Las Vegas.
"At Republic Services, safety is our No. 1 priority. We believe that in order to provide superior service to our customers and communities, we must first keep our people safe,” said Jon Vander Ark, president and CEO of Republic Services, in the release. "Prioritizing safety is one of the ways we are putting sustainability in action. On behalf of our 39,000 employees, I congratulate Frank."
Driver of the Year awards from the NWRA recognize waste collectors who safely operate their trucks, maintain a solid performance record, and enhance the safety and image of the environmental services industry.
"Over the course of his career, Frank developed a passion for safety and a commitment to customer service that is second to none," the release reads, noting Epps has been a Republic Services employee for 18 years.
In recognition of the award, Republic Services presented Epps and his team with a new collection truck. Republic Services has provided trash collection for Springfield residents and businesses for over 30 years, according to past reporting.
Second career is a sweet change for former clothiers.
