Letter to the Editor: Blunt must get with the times on fossil fuels

Posted online

[Editor’s note: This letter is in response to the opinion article, “Biden starts tenure with job-destroying energy moves,” by U.S. Sen Roy Blunt, R-Missouri.

Dear editor,

Regarding Sen. Roy Blunt’s "opinion" article of Feb. 12, leave it to him to say how important it is to keep burning and using fossil fuels, particularly coal, when the whole world is waking up to the fact that we are heading for a climate crisis and must continue transitioning to clean energy like wind and solar.

If not for ourselves and our current generation, surely he would have the vision and wisdom to look 25-50 years ahead and consider the environment our grandkids, etc., will be coping with.

Climate change and global warming used to be controversial subjects, but now science, melting ice (raising ocean levels), weather extremes, etc., have proven we must quit burning fossil fuels and generating greenhouse gasses.

Again, the whole world is starting to realize and respond to this situation. But not Sen. Blunt.

By the way, according to the Yale School of the Environment, Sen. Blunt has received $1.5 million from coal, oil and gas companies. Is it possible this might have influenced his opinion on this subject?

Regardless of Roy's view of Fossil Fuels, why not just vote him out next time, then he won't have to worry about it. It's time for Roy to go and get someone in to the Senate to replace him that has some Backbone.

Sen. Blunt may have received millions from fossil fuel lobbies, but I suspect that Charley's company has received BILLI

ONS of dollars in profits by supplying after market parts to old, emissions belching automobiles. As the saying goes, if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. Given Charley's heightened social consciousness, I look forward the his company's announcement that they will no longer supply parts to automobiles that do not meet modern, low emission standards. This will accelerate the retirement of older automobiles and benefit the environmental health of our world. Thanks, in advance, for doing your part Charley!
