After exiting its own brick-and-mortar space two years ago, Legacy Bagelry and Bakery LLC has shut down wholesale operations.
Legacy Bagelry had operated as a wholesale business since early 2017 at MJ’s Market and Deli, the 900 E. Battlefield Road store owned by MaMa Jean’s Natural Foods Market.
“Legacy will no longer be serving Springfield wholesale accounts,” the operator of Legacy Bagelry’s Facebook page said in an April 9 message to Springfield Business Journal. “We will be making a formal announcement shortly.”
Wholesale operations stopped April 1, according to the message. The company representative did not answer further questions, and an announcement has not been made. It’s unclear whether Legacy Bagelry would continue to operate in any other function. MaMa Jean’s spokeswoman Amber Wilkerson confirmed the closure but said she had no other details.
The ownership of Legacy Bagelry was taken over early last year by its head baker, Brad Dixon, according to social media posts and a Missouri secretary of state filing.
Legacy Bagelry started in mid-2012 by Kyle and Bethany Gerecke as The Mighty Bagel food cart downtown. It took on the Legacy name a year later when it moved to 3049 S. Fremont Ave. By early 2017, the Gereckes were told to move out of the building that was purchased along with the nearby Heritage Cafeteria by Oak Grove, Illinois-based InSite Real Estate. Instead of closing, Legacy Bagelry continued to do business as a wholesale operation at MJ’s Market, according to past SBJ reporting.
Now owned by Tillman Redevelopment LLC, the South Fremont site houses Able Coffee & Provisions, which is slated to open this month, owner Rance Loftsgard said this morning. It formerly was the home of Free Solo Coffee Co., which shuttered after less than a year in business.
