King Cash Saver closes in Springfield

Posted online

Another Pyramid Foods concept that operated in a former Dillons has shuttered.

The latest closure came yesterday, when Pyramid Foods’ King Cash Saver in Springfield ceased operations, according to signage posted outside the 1707 W. Battlefield Road grocery store. An employee who answered the phone at the store this morning also confirmed the closure.

Located across from Hy-Vee, King Cash Saver opened in 2015. It was one of four properties Pyramid Foods acquired when Dillons left the market in 2014, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

Another Pyramid Foods concept, Ruby’s Market, also operated in a former Dillons at 2843 E. Sunshine St. before closing in December 2018. The 54,000-square-foot property is now being divided into tenant spaces, with Aldi and Red Racks Thrift Store already on board, SBJ previously reported.

Plans for the former King Cash Saver building are unclear, and Pyramid Foods spokeswoman Gayla McDowell could not be reached for comment by deadline.

Erick Taylor, president and CEO of Rogersville-based Pyramid Foods, in December 2018 told SBJ the Battlefield Road building, near the Kansas Expressway intersection, was being renovated with a possible name change in the works. No building permits for the building are currently on file with the city of Springfield.

KingCashSaver.com, which is operated by Pyramid Foods, lists store locations in Ozark, Carthage and Lebanon, as well as Baxter Springs and Parsons, Kansas. The Springfield store continues to be listed on the website.
