Former news anchor Joe Daues has been named CEO of Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks.

Daues, who’s currently training to succeed 11-year Executive Director Crystal Webster, officially starts July 15.

“Crystal has developed a well-oiled machine. The staff is extremely competent and they know their role,” Daues said, noting he was approached by the board to take on the top job. “The board decided to change the job title to more accurately reflect what they’re expecting out of the position.”

Reached Monday afternoon, Webster said she informed the board in March that 2019 would be her last year with the nonprofit. She plans to work through October helping transition Daues into the CEO position at BCFO. After that, she's considering a "couple different things."

As CEO, Daues will lead a staff of five employees, as well as the day-to-day operations of the nonprofit that provides funding for breast cancer services in southwest Missouri and portions of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kansas. BCFO provides some $70,000 monthly for direct patient services and $5,000 monthly for indirect services, including a mentoring program, support group and community education, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.

Daues comes to BCFO from Sleepsana, where he was national sales manager for two years. Daues continues to own an undisclosed stake in the sleep aid producer, which he gained as part of his employment with the company. He previously worked at KY3 Inc., first as an evening news anchor for KSPR and then as an advertising account executive, for nearly 10 years.

“I consider that a huge benefit,” Daues said of the multiple jobs he’s held in his career. “I really think that’s given me a great perspective. It helps you really understand other people and what they’re going through.”

Daues joins BCFO during a time of transition, as founder Mary Beth O’Reilly previously signaled plans to step away from the nonprofit she founded in 1999. She’s on track to step back next year, Webster said Monday afternoon.
