Three Aspects of Female Leadership

Three aspects of female leadership that are important to me are challenging misperceptions, mentoring, and learning from others throughout our journey.

Various stigmas face female leaders. One stigma that I personally deal with in my role as a young female executive is my age. In our society, the idea of youth is sometimes equated with being inexperienced or lacking in knowledge. Even though I present as a young woman in leadership, I have worked in a leadership role at Touchstone for thirteen years. We are an office of young professionals but we are focused on educating ourselves to stay current and progressive in our workplace knowledge.

My mentor and mother, Dr. Cindy Baker, who is the owner of Touchstone Counseling LLC, taught me that mentoring is the key to contributing to the strong growth of our society and community as a whole. Sharing what you know about your passion and encouraging a mentee not only allows for continued growth in our area of business but also continues to build upcoming leaders.

People will come into your life and once you have learned everything you are meant to learn from one another, they will leave. This has been a hard lesson for me. However, it is up to me as a leader to understand that they have their own path, and even though they have impacted my life, I have also left an impression on them and they will take that with them as they create a new road on their life journey.
