Health Department heads home after building renovations

The Springfield-Greene County Health Department is returning to home base after building renovations.

The department's administrative offices and a variety of other services are headed back to the Harold K. Bengsch Building, 227 E. Chestnut Expressway, on July 30, according to a news release. Operations have been temporarily located on the fourth floor of Cox Medical Tower, 1443 N. Robberson Ave., since March.

“We appreciate the community's understanding as we have worked through our renovations and temporary relocation at Cox Medical Tower,” said Katie Towns, director of the Health Department, in the release. “We are thankful for the temporary space that provided minimal disruption to our services, and we are looking forward to serving the community back in the Bengsch Building.”

Lauren Stockam, spokesperson for the Health Department, said $746,211 in Centers for Disease Control and Prevention grant funding was used toward renovations, comprising an HVAC system replacement. Springfield City Council accepted the funding at a meeting last year, Stockam said.

Bengsch Building services include STI testing and treatment, vaccinations, vital records and lab services such as well water testing. Health Department services outside the Bengsch Building have not been impacted.
