Greene County's wages grew more quickly in third-quarter 2021 than many of its peers nationwide.
Average weekly wages were $971, an 8.4% increase from third- quarter 2020, according to a news release. The third- quarter data for Greene County is the latest available from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
By percentage growth, Greene County ranked No. 35 out of the 343 largest U.S. counties measured by the BLS.
However, Greene County's weekly wage figure was the second lowest among the seven Missouri counties in the report. The lowest was in St. Charles County, at $958, according to the release.
Missouri's largest counties, ranked by third-quarter percent increase and wage growth rank nationally, are as follows:
• Greene County, $971, up 8.4%, No. 35;
• Jackson County, $1,200, up 5.9%, No. 146;
• St. Louis City (which operates as its own county): $1,279, up 5.6%, No. 168;
• St. Louis County, $1,249, up 4.6%, No. 229;
• St. Charles County, $958, up 3.9%, No. 266;
• Clay County, $1,031, up 3.1%, No. 300; and
• Boone County, $1,031, up 2.2%, No. 317.
Greene County was one of the 333 largest U.S. counties that recorded year-over-year increases in average weekly wages, according to the release.
The Republic School District is on track to open its Intermediate School for fifth- and sixth-grade students for the 2025-26 academic year.
