Grant Wistrom to speak at medical marijuana expo

Posted online

Springfield businessman Grant Wistrom, who recently was awarded two medical marijuana facility licenses, is scheduled to speak on the topic at an industry conference.

A former NFL player, Wistrom is slated to participate with Kyle Turley, a former teammate with the St. Louis Rams, in a discussion on athletes and cannabis. The panel takes place at the MoCannBizCon + Expo in St. Louis, according to a news release. CrossFit Games competitor Dani Horan also is scheduled to speak during the March 3 discussion moderated by Dr. Mimi Vo, a St. Louis internal medicine specialist.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to talk about cannabis and the positive impact it had on me as an athlete,” Wistrom said in the release.

Wistrom’s Revival 98 LLC — named after his former uniform number — last month was awarded licenses for a dispensary and an infused-product manufacturing facility in Springfield. He told Springfield Business Journal that Revival 98 is expecting a nearly $2 million investment to build sites for his medical marijuana operations. Wistrom, who’s also co-owner of CrossFit Springfield, was denied a cultivation license in late December.

The panel discussion at the MoCannBizCon + Expo comes as the NFL and the National Football League Players Association negotiate an end to player suspensions for the use of marijuana, according to the release.

The inaugural MoCannBizCon + Expo brought in nearly 2,000 attendees. A spokesperson declined to estimate this year’s attendance count.

The event starts March 2 with opening remarks from DHSS Medical Marijuana Program Director Lyndall Fraker, according to the release.

The DHSS recently awarded 348 medical marijuana licenses statewide. Eleven dispensary licenses were given out in Springfield.
