Galloway coffee shop back in business

Springtown Coffee Co. is reopening next week under new ownership.

Jess and Van Malter purchased the Galloway Village coffee shop at 3541 S. Lone Pine Ave. from previous owners Justin and Allicyn Hollis for an undisclosed price. The Hollises had announced they were closing the shop on March 14. A soft opening under the new ownership is scheduled June 13.

“My husband and I had been looking for a potential location to open a coffee shop,” Jess Malter said this morning. “We feel pretty blessed to come into this position and take over a business that has such a great following.”

Springtown Coffee opened in 900 square feet in April 2019 in a multitenant center across from Sequiota Park. The Hollises started the business with Justin’s brother, Brennan Hollis, and his wife, Megan, as well as nearby 4 by 4 Brewing Co. LLC co-owners Derek and Danielle Shimeall. Springtown Coffee is across the parking lot from 4 by 4.

Like the Hollises, the Malters also are a husband and wife team starting their first business venture. Jess is an educator and Van is a member of the National Guard. Jess Malter said they’ve wanted to be business owners for a while, and they were presented the idea to purchase Springtown by one of their advisers.

“We’re keeping pretty much all of Springtown’s previous menu,” said General Manager
Elizabeth Schuh. “We know that their customer base had a lot of favorites. “

Schuh said she is working to hire two to three part-time baristas in preparation for the soft opening. They are keeping the same look of the shop, but Jess Malter said they plan to add outdoor seating and change the seating layout inside.

There’s also COVID-19 restrictions to contend with, as the city has put occupancy limitations in place. Employees will wear masks and customers will be spaced apart.

“We’re going to do everything we can to make our customers feel safe,” Jess Malter said.

An addition to the business model is a focus on supporting charities. Malter said they are launching a Drink Coffee, Change the World line of products that will help support causes the community and ownership cares about.
