Project description: Springfield’s first Costco Wholesale store is in progress near the intersection of U.S. Highway 65 and Chestnut Expressway. It’s also the first location in southern Missouri, joining six others in the state – three each in the St. Louis and Kansas City areas, according to the company’s website. Costco is a membership-based warehouse retailer carrying food, household supplies, clothing, electronics, appliances and other merchandise. The site also will have a fuel station, said Sydnee Lindsey, workforce development training coordinator with subcontractor Emery Sapp & Sons. Costco’s move into Springfield was contingent on a $4.8 million deal with City Council for public infrastructure improvement reimbursement, which was approved in June 2020, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting. Costco spokesperson Susan Holloway said the store will open with at least 200 employees.
Utah-based gourmet cookie chain Crumbl Cookies opened its first Springfield shop; interior design business Branson Upstaging LLC relocated; and Lauren Ashley Dance Center LLC added a second location.
