Project description: The new Boyd Elementary School will feature better security and enhanced accessibility in addition to a new storm shelter and preschool classrooms, according to the Springfield Public Schools website. The school is being built on the site of the former Berry Elementary School, less than a mile from the current Boyd Elementary School on the northeast side of town. It is set to open for the 2021-22 school year and house 300 students from preschool through fifth grade, said Teresa Beldsoe, a spokesperson for the district. The project is one of 39 funded by $168 million in bonds approved by Springfield voters in 2019. Other ongoing projects include Hillcrest High School, Jarrett Middle School and Williams Elementary School.
