Former Ethan Allen store at Battlefield Mall demolished

Posted online

The former home of Ethan Allen and Wood & Twig at Battlefield Mall has been demolished.

Springfield Business Journal this morning observed crews moving rubble adjacent to Dillard’s, facing Glenstone Avenue. Signage on a fence outside the construction site states: “New. Next. On Its Way. More Shopping, Dining & Entertainment In The Works.”

Building permits on file with the city point to plans for demolition and the construction of a new shell building in its place. One permit lists the declared valuation for the project at $2 million, and another is titled “Battlefield Mall restaurants.” Wichita, Kansas-based The Law Co. Inc. is listed as general contractor.

Jasmine Vokoun, store manager for the nearby Christopher & Banks, said she heard a rumor that two restaurants would be installed in place of the former Ethan Allen furniture shop.

Multiple attempts to reach Battlefield Mall General Manager Michael Martin and officials with The Law Co. were unsuccessful by deadline.

The now-demolished 12,500-square-foot space more recently was home to Kimberling City-based nonprofit Christian Associates’ Wood & Twig thrift store. Larry Leek, the CEO of the nonprofit, could not be reached immediately by deadline for information on when and why the store closed. It opened in late 2017, according to SBJ archives.

Meanwhile at Battlefield Mall, The Law Co. also is general contractor for a renovation of the food court on the south side of the property. Construction started in January with a goal of a spring completion for added seating, changing stations, televisions, and new cosmetic finishes and colors, SBJ previously reported.

More importantly, I think, to us old timers, that was the site of the Century 21 movie theater that was there for most of the mall's first 20+ years.
