Some 210 people turned out this morning for Springfield Business Journal’s third-annual 90 Ideas in 90 Minutes.
During the event at AMC Springfield 11 IMAX Theater, nine executives delivered business and life advice on a variety of topics and industries. The executives each had seven minutes to talk, followed by a question-and-answer session.
Below are samples of advice from the nine executives, in alphabetical order. The full list of the their 90 business ideas is slated to be published in SBJ’s Dec. 10 edition.
Nathan Adams, CEO of Epic Strategies LLC
Idea: If you want A+ talent, be an A+ employer.
“Know your weaknesses and surround yourself with those who can fill the gap.”
Becky Borthwick, associate circuit judge in Missouri’s 31st Circuit Court
Idea: Don’t be negative.
“They shoot the nag,” she said, referencing horses in poor condition at farms. “Don’t be the nag.”
Dr. Jose Dominguez, surgeon with Ferrell-Duncan Clinic at CoxHealth
Idea: Keep hope alive.
“When you deal with tough situations, you have to have the right leadership attitude.”
Julie Higgins, CEO of I Pour Life
Idea: Focus on the good in people. There’s already enough negativity.
“Water the good seeds. It will naturally choke out the weeds.”
Rick Meewes, managing partner of Reliable Superstore
Idea: Surround yourself with good people.
“Everyone in life needs a board of directors. We can’t go through life alone.”
Jennifer Rothschild, speaker and author
Idea: Work to grow as a leader.
“You could get the wood chopped with a dull blade, but it’s going to be a lot harder.”

Idea: Evaluate what’s most important.
“Money isn’t the most valuable. It’s time.”

Idea: Explore and discover yourself as a person and leader.
“What the world really needs is for you to be who you are.”

Idea: Recognize your uniqueness.
“Find out how you are unique and claim it.”
