Missouri state Sen. Eric Burlison yesterday announced his bid for a seat in Washington, D.C.

Burlison, a Republican who represents Christian County and part of Greene County, is seeking Missouri's 7th Congressional seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, according to his campaign website. The seat currently is held by U.S. Rep. Billy Long, R-Missouri, who is running for the retiring Roy Blunt's Senate position.

"I’m proud of my conservative achievements and enjoy fighting every day for Missourians’ liberties and freedoms," Burlison said on the website. "Now, with radical Democrats in power in Washington, D.C., attempting to destroy what made our country great, I am ready to take my proven conservative leadership to Congress to stand up for our southwest Missouri values."

Burlison, who works as a tax consultant, investment adviser and software consultant, indicated on the website that his campaign would focus on former President Donald Trump's agenda, Second Amendment rights, business issues and health care, among other priorities.

Burlison was elected as a Missouri state senator in November 2018. He previously was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives 2009-16.

He won Business Advocate of the Year honors in 2016 as part of Springfield Business Journal's Economic Impact Awards.
