Two companies with Springfield-area operations have been awarded a multimillion-dollar southwest Missouri bridge contract from the state transportation department.
The Missouri Department of Transportation this month gave the nod for the roughly $28 million Kaysinger Basin Bridge Bundle project to the partnership of Columbia-based heavy civil construction company Emery Sapp & Sons Inc. and Topeka, Kansas-based engineering firm Bartlett & West Inc., according to a news release. The work involves the replacement of 14 bridges and rehabilitation of six bridges in Bates, Benton, Cedar, Henry, Hickory, St. Clair and Vernon counties.
"Bridge bundle projects use replacement or rehabilitation to extend the life of bridges in place for an average of 70 years," officials said in the release. "These projects are necessary to ensure safety and stability for the traveling public."
The impacted bridges – with 14 to be replaced and six to be rehabilitated – connect two-lane rural routes in the impacted counties.
