The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has issued grants to four Greene County organizations.
The local grants are part of more than $13 million in funds nationwide announced today by the foundation from Tennessee-based Dollar General Corp. (NYSE: DG), according to a news release.
The Greene County grants went to:
• Missouri State University College of Education, $5,000.
• Ozarks Literacy Council, $2,500.
• Willard Intermediate School North, $2,000.
• Pleasant Hope School District, $1,500.
No other recipients are in Springfield Business Journal's coverage area.
Grants from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation may be used on new technology, equipment, books, materials or software, according to the release. The grants are designed to help organizations within a 15-mile radius of a Dollar General store or distribution center. The discount retailer operates 15 stores in Springfield and others in outlying areas, according to its website.
Connected to Watkins Elementary School is a new storm shelter now under construction.
