Date Lady Inc. entered a deal to expand its product line to Target.
Owner Colleen Sundlie said the company's date syrup and other date-based products began lining the shelves of 756 Target stores nationwide on May 10.
"We started out selling in retail stores that catered to customers shopping for natural/organic products, such as Whole Foods and Natural Grocers," Sundlie said in a news release. "Now, we are finding that more mainstream shoppers are looking for those same natural and organic products in mass retailers."
Declining to disclose specific terms, Sundlie said via email this morning the Target deal is a direct account, rather than a distributor relationship. She said most retail chains order around two cases per store up front and then adjust reorders accordingly.
With Target, Date Lady is now in more than 1,000 retail stores, including Walmart locations that were added in a deal last year.
Sundlie in November 2019 opened a new Commercial Street venture next door to her Date Lady business. Cafe Dhibs, at 918 W. Commercial St., has a menu that includes date shakes, espressos, baked goods and charcuterie trays.
Date Lady started in 2012 and makes a line of date-based products such as syrup, sugar, chocolate spread and caramel sauce.
