Curb Appeal: September has strong showing for high-end homes

More than $14 million worth of high-end homes were listed in Springfield during September, according to the Southern Missouri Regional MLS.

For the monthly editorial series Curb Appeal, Springfield Business Journal compiled a list of 22 single-family homes within city limits that were listed last month with asking prices of $500,000 or more. The September figure is up from 15 in August and 13 in July.

Combined, the owners of the residences are seeking $14.1 million for their properties.

At $1.45 million, the highest-priced home listed last month is located in east Springfield, north of Sunshine Street. With five bedrooms and five bathrooms, the home on a cul-de-sac in the Jones Spring area is 5,433 square feet, according to the listing.

Data on file with the Greater Springfield Board of Realtors show the average sale price for homes in the organization's territory was $278,716 in September, up 13% from $246,728 in the same month last year. There were 658 total units sold for a combined volume of $178.1 million, according to the GSBOR.

The latest market statistics report from the Missouri Realtors association shows the average sale price statewide in August was $289,014, a 10% increase from a year earlier. There were 8,180 residential properties sold, a 15% decrease, representing more than $2.3 billion in transactions, a 6.5% drop.
