Curb Appeal: Nearly $21M in high-end homes hit market in May

May was the hottest month to date this year for high-end homes in Springfield, according to data from the Southern Missouri Regional MLS.

For the monthly editorial series Curb Appeal, Springfield Business Journal compiled a list of 29 single-family homes within city limits that hit the market last month with asking prices of $500,000 or more. The May figure was up from 17 in April, five in March, six in February and 15 in January, according to past reporting.

The residences listed in May collectively are seeking $20.8 million in their asking prices.

The most-expensive newly listed home last month is a roughly 6,500-square-foot property with golf course and lake views at Highland Spring Country Club. AMax Real Estate listed the property for sale at $1.5 million.

In the Greater Springfield Board of Realtors' service area, the average sales price for a home in May was $260,000. The GSBOR reports 710 homes sold last month for a total volume of $195.5 million across the counties of Greene, Christian and Webster.

In Greene County, the average sales price in May was $270,504, according to the GSBOR. A total of 475 units sold for a volume of $124.7 million.

The latest statewide data show the average residential property sold for $285,764 in April, a 12.2% increase year over year, according to a news release from the Missouri Realtors association. Homes sold throughout Missouri in April generated a 3.6% increase in total dollar volume, compared with a year earlier, to roughly $2 billion.
