CoxHealth makes leadership changes

Posted online

CoxHealth is promoting three executives and hiring another in a series of leadership changes.

The most senior level promotion is for Ron Prenger, the health care system’s current senior vice president and chief hospital officer who’s slated to become executive vice president and chief operating officer in January 2020, according to a news release. The COO position, which is responsible for overseeing reports from all of the system’s hospitals, has not been filled since it was last held by President and CEO Steve Edwards, said CoxHealth spokeswoman Kaitlyn McConnell.

Karen Kramer, who’s currently vice president and system chief nursing officer, was tapped to succeed Prenger as senior vice president and chief hospital officer. With 31 years of CoxHealth experience, officials say she’ll continue to serve as chief nursing officer in an interim basis.

Vice President of Clinical Services Amanda Hedgpeth is slated to become vice president of hospital operations, a new role, in January. She’s worked at CoxHealth for 14 years, according to the release.

CoxHealth hired Ashley Kimberling Casad as Hedgpeth’s successor. Casad is coming to the Springfield health care system from her position as an assistant administrator for neurosciences at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. She completed a corporate internship with CoxHealth in 2013.
