CoxHealth hires new president for Monett hospital

Posted online

CoxHealth hired a veteran health care system administrator to lead its hospital in Monett.

Andrea McKay, who currently serves as chief ambulatory officer for Cody Regional Health in the Wyoming city of the same name, is scheduled to start as president of Cox Monett Hospital in June, according to a news release.

“Rural health is a vital part of our strategy and the way we serve our communities," said Max Buetow, CoxHealth’s incoming president and CEO, in the release. "We are at a pivotal point for our organization, and Andrea’s expertise and dedication to rural health will help us continue to advance the ways we serve Monett and the region.”

McKay brings nearly three decades of leadership experience to the role at CoxHealth. In her current position at Cody Regional Health, she leads strategy, operations and business development, and her work is credited with helping to grow revenue by 30%, improve patient satisfaction, implement quality and safety initiatives and introduce new service lines. She's worked at Coty Regional Health for over five years, according to her LinkedIn profile.

In joining CoxHealth, she'll take over leadership of a newly constructed $42 million hospital that opened in early 2021.

"When I walked in the front door of the beautifully designed hospital, it instantly felt like home,” McKay said in the release. "Everyone was so welcoming and kind, and I knew it was a place where I could make a positive difference while pursuing a lifelong dream of leading a rural hospital in a community with overwhelming support of local health care.”

She succeeds interim Cox Monett President Genny Maroc, who is retiring. Former President Darren Bass last year was promoted to vice president of clinical services for the health care system, according to past reporting.

A national search firm led the process to find a successor over five months. The process included committee members from CoxHealth and the Monett community, and employees additionally were asked to weigh in on the hire, according to the release.
