CoxHealth scheduled a June 27 ribbon-cutting ceremony for its 10-story expansion at its south Springfield hospital.
The ceremony is scheduled 10:15 a.m. Saturday, with tours to follow at the 3801 S. National Ave. hospital, according to a news release.
CoxHealth spokeswoman Michelle Leroux said staff would begin moving into the $130 million, 343,000-square-foot tower starting in early July. The Dee Ann White Women’s and Children’s Hospital will first relocate, followed by the Jared Neurosciences Center.
“The opening of the patient tower marks the culmination of many years of planning,” CoxHealth President and CEO Steve Edwards said in the release. “Looking forward, we know that to continue to provide the absolute best patient care and meet the needs of our growing and aging population, we must have facilities designed for the highest standards of care and efficiency.”
Work continues on the exterior of the original hospital, including upgrades and design elements to match the patient tower.
In March, the health system held two hiring events to fill 75 full- and part-time positions needed for the expansion, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.
The Beck Group, of Dallas, and Killian Construction Co. served as general contractors for the project, which includes 28 private rooms in a neonatal intensive care unit on the ground floor and 32 private postpartum nursing and support spaces on the second floor. Floors three through five are shelled for future expansion, and the upper floors are to be used for inpatient and outpatient neurological services, as well as rehabilitation space.
