Coast Guard: Ship's anchor hit California oil pipeline before leak

Investigators with the Coast Guard now believe a 1,200-foot cargo ship's dragging anchor hit an underwater oil pipeline in California before a recent leak.

The theory is that the ship, a Panama-registered vessel, pulled its anchor more than 100 feet in January during a heavy storm. The pipeline is believed to have been bent but not broken.

The October leak covered the Southern California coastline with crude.
