Cesar’s relocating to former Phase 2, McSalty’s property

Posted online

Cesar’s Old Mexico is relocating less than a mile down the road to a building that formerly housed the Phase 2 and McSalty’s Pizza Cafe restaurants.

The Mexican restaurant, which currently operates at 3027 E. Sunshine St. in the Habersham Center, on Sunday posted a Facebook picture showing signage being installed at 2627 E. Sunshine St., where Phase 2 most recently operated.

Sandra Gonzalez, the organizer of Cesar’s Old Mexico LLC in Missouri secretary of state filings, confirmed the move via Facebook posts and a message to Springfield Business Journal. Gonzalez did not provide further details, only saying she was unsure when the restaurant would relocate.

Springfield building permits listed a declared valuation of $300,000 for the renovation of the former Phase 2. Additionally, Greene County recorder data show Gonzalez’s Catrin’s LLC bought the property in February. Two deeds of trust with Southern Bank show two note amounts totaling $675,000 related to the property purchase, according to the Greene County recorder.

Officials with Stinson & Co., the listed general contractor in Springfield building permits, could not be reached for comment by deadline.

The new Cesar’s site became vacant after the closure of Phase 2, a restaurant from former Ebbets Field owner Lance Reeves that opened in January 2017. It’s unclear when Phase 2 closed, though Yelp reviews were posted through the end of 2018. Reeves had purchased the building from John Dunlop and Brian Dodds, who had operated McSalty’s Pizza Cafe, according to past SBJ reporting. A McSalty’s restaurant continues to operate at 1550 E. Battlefield Road.
