In conjunction with its 10-year anniversary, Springfield nonprofit Care to Learn yesterday announced a new executive director — three months after its former leader resigned.

Christian Mechlin, the son of Care to Learn’s first executive director, Morey Mechlin, is the new leader of the nonprofit that provides health, hunger and hygiene products to children in 34 Missouri school districts, according to a news release.

He comes to Care to Learn from Baltimore, Maryland, where he was the director of resources and communications for the nonprofit Housing Initiative Partnership Inc. There, he maintained a $2.5 million annual operating budget for the organization that develops affordable housing and provides financial counseling, according to a post at MissouriState.edu promoting his presentation in Springfield for last year’s Public Affairs Conference.

Christian Mechlin succeeds three-year Executive Director Linda Ramey-Greiwe, who resigned in January, said Heather Trinca, special event coordinator for Care to Learn. She deferred further questions to Care to Learn co-founder Doug Pitt, who could not immediately be reached for comment by deadline.

Ramey-Greiwe, who also could not be reached for comment this morning, founded LRG Consulting LLC in February, according to her LinkedIn profile. The company consults and trains individuals and businesses on sales, strategy, communication and leadership, according to the profile.

Ramey-Greiwe took over for Morey Mechlin in 2015 after the latter leader retired.

Founded by Pitt Technology Group LLC and Pitt Development Group LLC owner Pitt in 2008, Care to Learn has filled some 1 million student needs since its inception, according to the release.
