College of the Ozarks went with a promotion to fill its newly created chief operating officer role.
Weston Wiebe takes on the job after first serving as a professor for the Point Lookout college and last year moving to vice president for vocational programs and business affairs, according to a news release. The appointment is effective immediately.
“Dr. Wiebe will assume the management of day-to-day operations of the college,” President Jerry Davis said in the release. “He is a well-educated alumnus who understands the uniqueness of the college and how it operates.”
C of O spokesperson Valorie Coleman said Wiebe's day-to-day duties include strategizing to keep "our students and campus family safe during concerns associated with COVID-19." Coleman could not be reached by deadline for follow-up questions.
C of O ranked No. 6 this year on Springfield Business Journal’s list of the area’s largest higher learning institutions. The college reported spring enrollment of 1,447 students, as well as 400 employees.
Guest columnist Donnie Brawner says many entrepreneurs stray from their original business ventures, which is often a recipe for success.
