Burrell receives $2.7M federal grant

Burrell Behavioral Health Inc. was selected for a $2.7 million grant through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

The five-year grant is earmarked for a project designed to help people between the ages of 12 and 25 with mental health disorders who also abuse substances. The project aims to intervene in the substance abusers’ activities, as well as treat them and help them recover, according to a news release.

Burrell President and CEO C.J. Davis thanked Missouri Sens. Roy Blunt and Claire McCaskill, as well as Reps. Billy Long and Vicky Hartzler, for their work to help secure the grant.

“We’re thrilled to expand our services to youth, transitional-age adults and young veterans struggling with substance use, behavioral disorders or both. The need in our regions is great,” Davis said in the release.

Burrell’s program will serve people in Greene, Christian, Dallas, Polk, Stone, Taney and Webster counties. Officials expect to help 500 people during the five-year span of the grant.

Burrell, according to the release, works with more than 40,000 clients in 17 counties. The organization is affiliated with CoxHealth.
