Burrell CMO: Progress made on mental health crisis, but work to be done

Posted online

The community and nation are in the midst of a mental health crisis, and while progress has been made to tackle it, the work is cut out for professionals in the industry, according to Burrell Behavioral Health's chief medical officer.

Speaking this morning for Springfield Business Journal's 12 People You Need to Know live interview series, Dr. Garima Singh said quicker access to mental health service is the best way to make sure the crisis is being dealt with efficiently.

"We are a big advocate when it comes to mental health access," Singh said, noting at Burrell, patients typically can see providers within 15-20 days.

Missouri is faring relatively well, Singh said, as the wait for services can be as far out as March 2022 in some states.

"We don't have six months to wait to get the mental health needs met," she said.

Burrell Behavioral Health has beefed up its mental health provider headcount to 61, up from 17 when Singh came on board three years ago, she said.

To continue to face down the mental health crisis, Singh said organizations like Burrell must continue to lobby and work with insurers to cut down wait times and costs.

She indicated the COVID-19 pandemic has been especially difficult for the mental health care industry and patients.

"We don't have to pretend that we are made of iron," she said. "The pandemic has been the most difficult and challenging time in my professional career, but I couldn't be more proud of the team and organization we are."

IF we really wanted to address “mental health” in America we would start in the Government indoctrination centers often referred to as “public schools”. A) Stop accepting illegal immigrants as “students”. B) Stop teaching kids Marxist theories like “Critical Race Theory” , “1619” and turning all the kids into “racists”. C) Stop ignoring “the science” and telling kids there are more than TWO sexes! That is between parents and their kids or when they are adults. D) Remove ALL the sexual filth from our school libraries that is over sexualizing our kids. Stay away from sex period!! Can we focus on trying to get them to read, write and not have to use pictures when working the cash register at McDonalds?! What is being allowed to happen in school districts across America should have ALL of those public school officials and school board members in jail. E) STOP dishing out over 600,000 pills a year to hyper kids. (most are Fatherless) Bring back the paddle!! Watch how quick we could fix their “mental health”. Much better than Ritalin! F) Start teaching kids how to think, not what to think! G) Stop scarring the hell out of kids with your man climate change hoax!!! America is the cleanest nation in the world! Besides. We represent about 6-7% of the earths surface. Not only that, but over my life time the environmental alarmist Marxists are 0 for 61 with their doomsday predictions!! Lets get GOD back in our schools and teach our children the TRUTH about America!! You don’t need to teach a “theory” when you can teach the TRUTH! Do you know how much money it would take to RESTORE the above sanity to our schools and country? ZERO DOLLARS!! You’re welcome.
