Bundt cake chain to fill Brentwood space

National chain Nothing Bundt Cakes is preparing to enter the Springfield market with a store in Brentwood Center South.

The franchise, which sells bundt cakes in various sizes, is taking the space that formerly housed the Freezing Cow rolled ice cream shop, which closed prior to the coronavirus pandemic, said Brentwood Center South landlord Curtis Jared.

Jared, who’s president and CEO of Jared Enterprises Inc., said infill work on the nearly 2,300-square-foot shop will begin this summer. Nothing Bundt Cakes is set to open later this year in the 2906 S. Glenstone Ave. storefront, though he was unsure of a target date. He declined to comment on the lease agreement.

Building permits filed with the city show infill costs of $225,000. Members of franchise group Harvey Trio LLC could not be reached for comment by deadline.

Franchise investments range from $400,000 to $567,000, including an initial franchise fee of $35,000, according to the Nothing Bundt Cakes website. The Addison, Texas-based company also collects a 5% royalty and 4% of sales for marketing weekly.

The Springfield store will be the sixth bakery in Missouri, according to the website. The company has over 300 stores in the United States and Canada and has 14 additional bakeries in the pipeline, according to the website, though the Springfield store was not listed by deadline.

Nothing Bundt Cakes made the Inc. 5000 list from 2016 to 2018 and was recognized as a top franchise by Franchise Business Review from 2016 to 2019. The company was founded in 1997 in Las Vegas by Debra Shwetz and Dena Tripp, according to its website.

With the new lease, Jared said Brentwood Center South is fully occupied. Brentwood Center North is nearly full, he said.
