Bryan Properties to bring Marriott concept to south Springfield

Bryan Properties has plans in the works for a Marriott concept in south-central Springfield.

The 123-room Element by Westin is slated to open by early 2023 at the 1100 block of East Battlefield Road, said Bryan Properties Chief Financial Officer Brad Gebhard. The site is near Andy B's and the National Avenue intersection.

“Bryan Properties, owners of Hampton Inns and Tru Springfield Downtown, are eager to bring this bright, modern design to the extended-stay segment in south Springfield," Gebhard said via email. "The hotel will represent eco-conscious amenities, flowing multipurpose areas and deliver an innovative guest experience.”

H Design Group LLC is project architect, and a general contractor has not yet been selected for the development on nearly 2.8 acres, Gebhard said, declining to disclose the estimated cost.

Bryan Properties previously planned to develop a Staybridge Suites at the property. The company took over ownership of the property in December 2018, after the former Courtyard Office Center was demolished in 2016, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting. Gebhard said a delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic led the company to reevaluate the plans, pivoting to a hotel in the Marriott family.

Marriott International Inc.'s (Nasdaq: MAR) Element by Westin concept has extended- and long-term stay options, according to its website. Designed as a boutique concept, the website indicates rooms are spacious and include kitchens. Existing Missouri hotels under the Element brand are in the Kansas City and St. Louis markets.
