Branson board ousts city administrator

The Branson Board of Aldermen yesterday voted to oust five-year City Administrator Stan Dobbins.

A news release issued this morning indicates Dobbins was placed "on administrative leave through his anticipated retirement date of April 30." The unanimous vote was held during a closed executive session.

The reason for the administrative leave was not stated, and officials could not be reached for comment immediately by deadline. It's also unclear if Dobbins' retirement date had been set prior to the board decision.

“As I recently shared, you would see staff changes at city hall," Branson Mayor Larry Milton said in the release. "It remains your board's intent that you have a city government that serves you, the people of Branson."

Branson City Clerk Lisa Westfall has been named acting city administrator.

In an April 14 Facebook post on his mayoral Facebook page, Milton indicated staff changes were on their way.

"When you elected me to be your mayor and you elected a new Board of Aldermen over the past two years, you voiced your concerns loud and clear and we are going to act on them," he said in the post. "It is your board’s intent that from the top down you have a city government that serves you, the people of Branson. None of the changes you’ll be seeing are personal in nature, and in all cases every attempt is being made to make sure all individuals involved can part on good terms."

Dobbins, former chief of the Branson Police Department, first become city administrator in an interim capacity in 2017. He was named to the role on a permanent basis at the start of 2018, according to past reporting.

An attempt to reach Dobbins was unsuccessful by deadline.

The Branson board last week swore in Marshall Howden, Chuck Rodriguez and Ralph LeBlanc as new members. Bill Skains, Jeff Seay and Jamie Whiteis exited the board, according to a separate news release.
