Springfield-based BKD LLP donated more than $385,000 to charitable organizations in southwest Missouri during its fiscal year that ended May 31.

As part of the total, the firms's offices in Springfield, Branson and Joplin raised $160,000 to address food insecurity issues that worsened amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to a news release.

“I am grateful to be part of an organization that cares so deeply for our local communities,” said Gary Schafer, BKD’s local managing partner, in the release. “The passion of the BKD team is evident in generosity with volunteer time and financial support for organizations committed to making southwest Missouri a better place.”

BKD previously disclosed $3.5 million in charitable donations made firmwide during its recently ended fiscal year. At the time, the local contribution amount was not available.

Donations locally benefited organizations including Care to Learn, Community Partnership of the Ozarks Inc., Ozarks Food Harvest Inc. and United Way of the Ozarks, according to the release.

A spokesperson previously said the donations were funded by employees and partners.
