Pyramid Foods’ downtown liquor and grocery store Bistro Market closed the majority of its operations with no official notice.
The company consolidated its liquor and grocery options into its Price Cutter store at 1260 St. Louis St., according to a
Facebook post and a sign on the Bistro Market’s door. The change was first reported by the
Springfield News-Leader.
The market’s Starbucks cafe and seating on the east side of the 10,000-square-foot store remain open. The store’s bar is closed.
Pyramid Foods spokesman Charlie Dunn could not be reached for comment by deadline on the store, but the Facebook post indicates the store could switch focus.
“Pyramid Foods and Bistro are committed to keeping this space filled in downtown Springfield,” the Facebook post reads. “We have recently been approached by food service vendors and researched launching our own food service concept in this space.”
At 401 South Ave., Bistro Market
originally launched in August 2010 with a 24-foot salad and hot food bar, self-serve olive and gelato bars, the Starbucks cafe and a 50-seat beer, wine and cocktail bar.
In early 2015, the store dropped its salad bar and grill area in favor of more seating for Starbucks customers. It also pared down its grocery options to the essentials, including bread, milk, eggs and grab-and-go sandwiches, with expanded spirits.
