Billy Long picked to lead IRS

Posted online

President-elect Donald Trump has chosen former Missouri Rep. Billy Long as his pick for commissioner of the IRS.

Trump announced his selection of Long in a post yesterday on Truth Social.

"He is an extremely hard worker, and respected by all, especially by those who know him in Congress," Trump said. "Taxpayers and the wonderful employees of the IRS will love having Billy at the helm."

Long said on X that his "phone is blowing up" with congratulatory messages.

"I'm very honored and excited," Long said in an X post.

A former auctioneer, Long held the 7th Congressional seat covering southwest Missouri in the U.S. House of Representatives 2010-23. He also ran to represent Missouri in the U.S. Senate but lost in the Republican primary to Eric Schmitt.

Trump’s Truth Social post indicates Long has worked as a business and tax adviser since leaving Congress.

I am guessing all those Fed Up yard signs paid off! As a CPA who deals with the IRS, not sure I understand this pick but hopefully he can help the IRS process a check properly.
