Bass Pro Shops is incentivizing the retention of distribution center employees to the tune of $1,000 apiece.

The bonus initiative applies to all of the outdoor retailer's distribution workers who are in good-standing employment with Bass Pro from Sept. 11 to Dec. 19, according to a news release. Bass Pro spokesperson Jack Wlezien said "thousands" of employees are slated to receive the bonus, but he declined to estimate a specific figure.

“Our distribution center team members are the very heartbeat of serving our customers, working to fulfill orders that help families connect with nature at a time when it’s needed more than ever,” Bass Pro founder Johnny Morris said in the release. “We are very grateful to our incredible distribution center team members for their outstanding efforts."

Bass Pro has distribution centers in Springfield; Wheeling, West Virginia; Tooele, Utah; Macon, Georgia; and Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

The outdoor retailer last month announced a separate, multimillion-dollar investment in employee bonuses.

Bass Pro ranked No. 3 on Springfield Business Journal's list this year of the area's largest employers, with 6,000 employees within a 50-mile radius of the Queen City. The company reported 40,000 companywide employees for the July 13 list, and Forbes research estimates $8 billion in annual revenue for the outdoor retailer.
