Bass Pro rallies support for Convoy’s Dorian work

Bass Pro Shops is appealing to its network of customers, vendors and partners to help rally support for Convoy of Hope’s Hurricane Dorian response efforts.

Through a campaign called Anglers for the Bahamas: Fishin’ for a Mission, Bass Pro is contributing a minimum of $1 million toward relief efforts — $500,000 in cash and $500,000 worth of donated goods, according to a news release.

“All of us at Bass Pro Shops are heartbroken by the devastation in the Bahamas, which hold a special place in the hearts of all anglers. We understand anglers and many others may feel the same way and want to help but simply don’t know where to start,” Bass Pro founder Johnny Morris said in the release. “Beyond our pledge of financial support, we feel we can play a far greater role in supporting the Bahamas and its wonderful people by uniting anglers with an efficient and highly respected relief organization, Convoy of Hope.”

Convoy of Hope, according to a Sept. 12 blog post, has delivered 23 planeloads of supplies, including water and food, more than 90,000 meals and 500 water filters to the Bahamas, among other supplies. In the country, the nonprofit has served more than 2,000 families and 7,500 individuals. The hurricane has left as many as 10,000 people in the Bahamas homeless and killed at least 50 people, according to The New York Post.

Since launching the Anglers for the Bahamas campaign, multiple organizations have gotten on board with Bass Pro, according to the release. Among them are Tyson Foods, which donated 125,000 servings of canned chicken, and $10,000 donations from the likes of Springfield Striping & Sealing, country music star Luke Bryan and Champagne Metals.
