Band director out at Republic High School after allegations of inappropriate behavior

Posted online

The high school band director at Republic High School has resigned after a video that surfaced online alleged inappropriate conduct with a minor.

Ryan Henigman resigned amid a district decision to place him on administrative leave and conduct an investigation, according to a letter sent to staff and families yesterday. A copy of the letter was provided to Springfield Business Journal by Nikki Faith, the school district's director of communications.

"Through our investigative process, we found this matter does not involve any student of Republic Schools, and we have no indication of misconduct related to students in our district," the letter reads. "Even so, the Republic School District takes any and all allegations of inappropriate behavior extremely seriously as the safety of our students is our highest priority and responsibility."

The letter from the school district does not disclose the specifics of the alleged behavior.

However, a video shared online appears to show Henigman daring an individual who identifies herself as 15 years old to "show off your legs." The man in the video – recorded on video chatting service OmeTV – identifies himself as 28 and from Texas, and he's then confronted by a YouTuber known as NicoIsCold. The YouTuber has several "catching creeps" videos on his channel.

The Republic School District Board of Education hired Henigman as director of Republic bands in July 2022, according to the district. He previously served as director of bands at Shawnee Public Schools in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

The letter sent yesterday stated, "Band instruction will be continued by our assistant band directors, and the Republic School District will take steps to fill this vacancy as soon as possible."
