The Springfield Cardinals have hired Ballparks of America General Manager Scott Bailes.

Bailes is scheduled to join the organization's front office as baseball and community ambassador on March 17, according to a news release. It's a return to the Minor League Baseball Double-A affiliate team for Bailes, who previously served as its market development manager.

"We are incredibly excited to welcome Scott back to our front-office family," Springfield Cardinals Vice President and General Manager Dan Reiter said in the release. "Scott is a tremendous advocate for our organization and our community as a whole, and he is the perfect person to join our team as we get ready for the exciting next frontier of Springfield Cardinals baseball and family entertainment at Hammons Field."

Bailes, a Springfield native who also had a nearly 10-year professional baseball career and served on Springfield City Council, will work in his new job to grow the Cardinals brand through special events, corporate hospitality and partnerships.

He's led Ballparks of America in Branson since 2020, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.

"Ballparks of America's ownership group appreciates everything Scott has done over the past three years to build an experience in Branson that is an asset to the national baseball community," said Paul Satterwhite, the leader of the investment group that owns Ballparks of America, in the release. "He has worked hard to build a leadership team that is ready to take the reins and take Ballparks of America to the next level.

"We have no doubt that he will continue to do great things as an ambassador for the Cardinals."

A separate Ballparks of America news release indicates an announcement about interim leadership should come soon as the organization conducts a search for a new general manager.

Bailes comes to the Cardinals organization after Springfield City Council voted last month to purchase the team's home, Hammons Field, according to past reporting. With the deal that's pending approval by a bankruptcy judge, the MLB’s St. Louis Cardinals, who own the club, have agreed to keep the team in the Queen City through 2038.
