Attorney makes move to direct nonprofit

Attorney Ben McBride is making the switch to the nonprofit world in a move that involves a leadership transition at Springfield-based I Pour Life.

McBride, managing attorney at McBride Law, is slated to become executive director of youth development organization I Pour Life on July 6, according to a news release. Founded in 2011, I Pour Life helps youth move to independent adulthood from government dependence.

“I realized that I could have a lot more impact leading I Pour Life than as a self-employed business owner," McBride said in the release. “My goal is to reach as many youths in the foster care system as possible. I will do that by leading I Pour Life into any doors that God opens for it – as a team, we will work towards meeting its mission and values.”

At I Pour Life, McBride succeeds founder and CEO Julie Higgins, who is passing the reins but will keep the title of emeritus founder and CEO.

McBride was one of more than 20 applicants for the job, according to the release.

“It is now time to transition,” Higgins said in the release. “We are at a fast-growth place, and I am excited for Ben to champion this process.”

McBride said via email that McBride Law, which provides criminal defense and immigration trial services, is winding down operations with an expected closure in August as he transitions to I Pour Life.

McBride will continue to serve as a municipal judge in the city of Republic and as vice president of the board of directors for Lake Country Soccer, according to the release.

I Pour Life has an operating budget of more than $1 million and 16 employees, McBride said, noting three new hires start next week and additional life-coaching positions are slated to be added in the next two quarters.

I Pour LIfe's LifeStrengths program has served more than 400 youth in Missouri in the past six years, according to the release.
