Askinosie partners with California company on avocado bar

Posted online

Springfield’s Askinosie Chocolate LLC partnered with Sausalito, California-based Heath Ceramics on its newest product, an avocado dark chocolate bar.

The new offering in Askinosie’s CollaBARation line, dubbed Dark Chocolate + Avocado & Rosemary, incorporates Hass avocados mixed with cocoa beans from Tanzania, organic rosemary and black pepper. It debuted yesterday, according to a news release.

The chocolate bar is the eighth in the CollaBARation line, through which Askinosie partners with other companies via ingredients or techniques. For Heath Ceramics, which designs and manufactures tableware and other home goods, it’s about technique.

“We were inspired by Heath’s approach to design which is both distinct and special, but not too precious,” Askinosie Chocolate founder and CEO Shawn Askinosie said in the release. “You’ll find their dishes on the tables of the best restaurants in the world, but even after seven decades they remain committed to making timeless goods thoughtfully, honestly and with pride — values that also guide our chocolate-making.

“We hope this chocolate bar evokes Heath’s California roots with the ingredients, the smooth glazing of their ceramics with the texture and mouthfeel, and our companies’ similar dedications to making things with care by hand, with its taste.”

Previous CollaBARation bars include a partnership with local lifestyle blog A Beautiful Mess on its Dark Chocolate + Coconut Sugar & Toasted Coconut product.

A year ago, Askinosie released its first new origin bar — referring to the area where it’s sourced, in this case Zamora, Ecuador — since 2010, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.
