Key People Form Leadership Outlook

Some of the most important leadership lessons I have learned have come from various sources. My parents were business owners for many years and being involved with that business gave me a good start in understanding how to work hard and work smart.

I have a husband who is in a leadership role and is a great example of a leader who is willing to do whatever it takes to coordinate and make sure missions are accomplished.

I am blessed to work under leadership that is positive, engaging, encouraging, and willing to provide the resources for continued education, whether it is formal or informal.

Last, but certainly not least, my two daughters have given me a whole different perspective on leadership and how the traditional leadership lessons have to become a little more creative to produce successful results. I have found that the combination of these important people in my life have given me a good spectrum on becoming an effective leader.

These are some of the leadership lessons I have learned:

  • Listen to understand, not to respond.
  • Be willing to consider other points of view.
  • Look for the good in people and encourage that.
  • Set an example, be willing to work hard and do what needs to be done.
  • Surround yourself with smart, hard-working people that you can trust.
  • Learn from those with experience.
