The Springfield-Branson National Airport was approved for a federal designation that's expected to ease travel for international business and vacation flyers.

The airport is gaining a Global Entry Enrollment Center, a program from U.S. Customs and Border Protection that allows faster clearance for preapproved, low-risk travelers, according to a news release. The enrollment center is scheduled to open tomorrow at the Springfield airport.

“It may seem odd to open the center in the middle of a pandemic,” said Brian Weiler, director of the Springfield airport, in the release. “But when the pandemic is under control, and folks start traveling again, I’m confident they’ll come here to enroll."

The Springfield airport is only the third in Missouri to gain the federal designation. Centers also are operational at Kansas City International Airport and St. Louis International Airport, according to Customs and Border Protection's website.

The Global Entry Enrollment Center is located in the terminal lobby of the Springfield airport, according to the release.

We are so lucky to have Brian Weiler as director of the airport. He has done a super job and has put Springfield/Branson on the map.
