Coinciding with its three-year anniversary, a hip joint Springfield LLC is expanding to the south side.

The chiropractor, massage and acupuncture practice’s second location is planned to open in March at 1720 E. Republic Road, Ste. S, in Southgate Shopping Center, said a hip joint co-owner Dr. Eric Reavis. Renovations for the space are underway.

“We have grown our clinic to its capacity downtown,” said Reavis, who owns the company with is wife Tania, via email. “We are ready to see how far we can grow our franchise model.”

The Reavises were not available to provide additional details on their second location by deadline.

A hip joint’s downtown practice opened in March 2016 at 309 S. Jefferson Ave. In a July 2018 Springfield Business Journal article, the husband-and-wife duo recalled their first month’s revenue: $631. By the following year, the business grew to 12 employees and $406,817 in annual revenue.

The next step for a hip joint is franchises. The couple have said they hired a franchise lawyer.

“Our goal is to open thousands of clinics someday,” a hip joint officials said in a Facebook post yesterday afternoon on the announcement of its second location. “This is just part of our journey.”

A hip joint’s model is based on membership fees starting at $35 per month for one chiropractic adjustment, with each additional adjustment for $25. Members, which the company calls Hippies, also receive discounted rates on other services like massages and acupuncture. Services also are available without a membership.
