7 Brew Coffee plans Springfield debut next month

A Fayetteville, Arkansas-based coffee chain is on its way to the Queen City.

Franchisee Chris Sebald said the first shop in Springfield for 7 Brew Coffee is on track for a soft opening by late November at 2317 N. Glenstone Ave. The shop is next to a Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers restaurant and less than a half-mile from BigShots Golf.

“They just started franchising earlier this year,” Sebald said of 7 Brew. “We saw the opportunity and jumped right on it.”

Since opening in 2017, the coffee chain has expanded to 11 shops in Arkansas, according to its website. Sebald said the first Missouri store opened in Joplin earlier this year.

Sebald, who lives in Springdale, Arkansas, said the Springfield shop will be the first franchise location for 7 Brew to open. It also will be Sebald’s entry into the coffee industry. He said he previously worked the past 12 years in insurance for MetLife and Sun Life Financial Inc. He is a franchisee in the business via Brew Crew LLC with brother Brandon Sebald and their friend, Larry Wilson. He declined to disclose their investment and the 7 Brew website doesn’t list franchise fees.

Sebald said the 7 Brew shops are in prefabricated buildings and feature dual drive-thru lanes with a focus on iced and hot coffee, shakes, smoothies, energy drinks, teas and Italian sodas. He said the intention is to quickly get customers their drinks – typically two to five minutes upon placing their order.

“We’re purely beverages, we don’t get involved at all in food,” he said. “That allows us to be a lot faster.”

The Glenstone Avenue shop is the first of many Brew Crew LLC plans for Missouri. Sebald said the franchisees have most of the state in their territory, except for Kansas City and Branson.

“In Springfield alone, we’ll have multiple locations in the next year,” he said, noting Nixa and Republic are among other areas being considered. “That’s our strategy. Eventually, we’ll be making our way up to St. Louis as well, but we’re super excited to be starting in Springfield. It’s a great market with great people.”

Springfield’s second 7 Brew is planned to open in the first quarter of 2022 at 1455 W. Battlefield Road, a former Assemblies of God Credit Union branch, he said. That building will be demolished to accommodate the store. The franchisees are targeting East Sunshine Street for a third shop, but the location is still undetermined.

Each of the roughly 510-square-foot Springfield shops will employ 50-60 mostly part-time workers, Sebald said.
